"Whatever you do, fund the band": The History and Continuing Implementation of the 1921 Iowa Band Law
Master's Thesis

Description: The 1921 Iowa Band Law is the focus of Jenkins's thesis toward his Master of Music degree in Musicology. The thesis investigates the existing literature regarding the law, its history in the Iowa Congress and subsequent changes made during the past 95 years, and the examins two bands as case studies: the Clarinda Municipal Band and the Dyersville Municipal Band. Both towns were approximately the same size in 1921, and the histories of bands in the two towns present different approaches to the relative success of the law.

Jenkins's thesis received the 2017 UMKC Distinguished Master's Thesis Award.
